"What
an amazing trip. We truly did get to see everything
we came here for. The bear viewing was way more that
I had ever expected. The fishing was great."

Some of the many day trips to be considered:
· Bear Viewing - View Kodiak
bears by kayak or on foot as they wander the rivers, coastal
areas and mud flats in search of food. Many guests consider
this the adventure of a lifetime!
· Whale watching aboard the
Shelbee-D - cruise the bay looking for Fin, Humpback and Orca
whales - chances are we'll see a host of other marine life
as well!
· Sea Mammal Kayak Adventure -
Get up close and personal with sea lions, sea otters, puffins
and other marine life.
· Bear / Wildlife Viewing Aboard
the Shelbee - D - It's easy to view and photograph wild-life
from the Shelbee -D, our landing craft specifically built
to handle Kodiak waters safely and in comfort. Common sightings
of bears, seals, whales, fox, otter, deer, porpoise, and birds
galore!
· Coastal photo excursions
by kayak or boat.
· Beachcombing - Search for treasures as you
explore Kodiak's beautiful black-sand beaches.
· Early season hiking to search
for shed deer antlers and nature's treasures left behind from
Kodiak's harsh winter.
· A no-stress day of pure relaxation
- Enjoy a nap in the hammock, take a book to the beach, play
horse shoes in the meadow or croquet on "the bluff",
eat fresh salmonberries off the bush, take in the view, whatever
you desire!

The scenery & wildlife
viewing in our area is some of the most spectacular in the
world. An amazing variety and number of land and marine
mammals as well as birds make Uyak Bay their home. Common
sights include bears foraging for food, eagles and puffins
over head, inquisitive seals lounging on the rocks, foxes
digging for clams, and whales cruising the bay.
We provide 3 means of
guided bear
and wildlife viewing:
From the Shelbee - D, our 22' landing craft, by sea kayak,
or on land. All wildlife is viewed in its natural environment,
we don't use a viewing platform and there won't be a crowd
of people in the way. We practice a low-impact philosophy.
Whether you are touring the bay by boat, exploring the rivers
and coastlines by kayak, or hiking along the beautiful black-sand
beaches, wildlife viewing and photo opportunities are sure
to be plenty!
Bear
viewing: Our camp is surrounded by the Kodiak National
Wildlife Refuge - home to over 3,000 Kodiak brown bears
and one of the most dense populations of bears in the world.
Guided bear viewing is done aboard the Shelbee - D, on the
rivers and coastline by kayaks, and also on foot. It is
always a thrill to observe these magnificent creatures in
their natural surroundings!
Wildlife viewing: Abundant populations of land and
sea mammals call Uyak Bay home. The wildlife viewing is
exceptional. Commonly seen animals include Kodiak brown
bears, Stellar sea lions, harbor seals, Dall's porpoise,
sea-otters, Sitka black-tailed deer, land otters, and fox.
Wildlife viewing is fully guided and available by boat,
kayak or on foot.
Birding:
Kodiak Island is home to over 200 species of birds.
Our area is a bird- watchers paradise - home to upland birds,
sea birds, waterfowl, and birds of prey. Commonly seen species
include bald eagles, horned & tufted puffins, kittiwakes,
arctic terns, oystercatchers, cormorants, harlequin ducks,
mergansers, sand pipers and many more. A complete birding
list is available from the Kodiak
National Wildlife Refuge.
Whale
watching: Three species of whales frequent Uyak
Bay, our front yard, in search of food. Fin whales, which
reach lengths of 70,' are commonly seen from the Shelbee-D
and often from "the bluff," a short walk from
the cabin where there is an expansive view of the bay. Humpback
whales cruise the bay, peaking during migration times, where
they can be seen showing their flukes and breaching. Orcas
are also seen cruising the bay searching for salmon and
other marine mammals. Orcas often breach and the calves
are very playful and show off.
We specialize in custom
adventures. The safety, comfort and enjoyment of our guests
is our main concern. Let us know what you want to do, how
you're most comfortable, what level of activity you want
and we'll do our very best to accommodate.
