The Cannery: A private bunk house is included with your adventure package. Located on the beach surrounded by the mountains of beautiful Uyak Bay, the bunk house was built in 1966 and remodeled for your comfort in 2008. There are 4 bedrooms, two full baths, a fully furnished modern kitchen and a large great room. The Nature channel is always playing right outside the front window.

Relax while sitting around the campfire, glass for wildlife on the mountain, view eagles, whales, otters, seals, fox, kingfishers, etc. from the deck, or simply take in the beauty of a million dollar view and all nature has to offer. Fishing from the beach in the evening is always fun and we have basketball, badminton and buoy swings in the warehouse.
Historic Parks Cannery was built in 1934 to process Kodiak Island’s abundant salmon and was abandoned in 1983. The original buildings are still standing and offer a great opportunity to explore relics of days past. The cannery also offers unique spring bear viewing opportunities. Directly behind the cannery a mountain rises 3200’ from sea level.
This is a denning mountain for Kodiak's famous brown bears. It is an amazing experience to see these giants and their cubs as they emerge from winters sleep. On the ridges of this mountain are ancient bear trails that have been used for thousands of years. These trails are still used today as bears travel in the same footsteps as their ancestors.
Coming soon: Spirit of Alaska Wilderness Adventures will open a one of a kind indoor wildlife viewing facility. You will be able to view, film and study nature from the comfort of a heated indoor viewing room. Construction begins in spring 2009 on our 20'x20' indoor viewing room that will be perched on top of the cannery warehouse. See bears, deer and mountain goats on the mountain; whales and sea life in the bay and eagles soaring over head and nesting in cotton wood trees along the bluffs.
Spirit of Alaska will offer this viewing opportunity only to our guests. We will not change our high quality operating standards - when you book with Spirit of Alaska Wilderness Adventures you will have this warm comfortable viewing room all to yourselves.
